St. Paul’s Review: “The Robeson County Democratic Party has been fined by the state Board of Elections for not filing campaign finance reports on time.
“Despite a number of notices from state elections officials that it was in non-compliance with campaign finance regulations, the Democratic Party had filed only one report since 2004 when it was “terminated” by state elections officials in January 2008, according to state documents. At the same time that the party filed its fourth quarter 2012 report, it requested the state to consider it again active.”
“According to the state board’s Finance Division, however, the party filed no more reports for 2013 or 2014. The state then required the party treasurer to provide all bank records related to party expenses and contributions from 2009 to 2010 for auditing purposes.
“As a result of the financial audit, the state did not penalize the party for not filing reports in 2009 and 2010. However the party was penalized $2,500, or the max of $500 for each report not filed during the 2011 to 2012 election cycle.”
